How to Take Your Fitness to the Next Level

By Maya Carducci

If you have already started your fitness journey, odds are you may be looking for new ways to increase your gains or push through a plateau. Taking your fitness to the next level can be fun yet challenging. Here are some ways I found to help amplify my health and fitness.

Add variety to your workouts and diet. Trying new workout variations can help you utilize muscles that are not usually worked during your normal routine. An example is dumbbell bench press versus barbell bench press. Another example is goblet squats versus standard front barbell squats or dead-bugs versus high plank. Keeping variety in your workouts will help you excel with your athleticism. In addition, changing your diet can also foster muscle growth. Increasing your daily intake, I found, has helped me have more energy and put on more muscle and definition.

Add weight. Every few weeks you should naturally be getting stronger if you have been maintaining a consistent fitness schedule. Challenging your body with small increases in weight can help build more muscle and push you to greater feats. Even adding 2.5 pounds can be challenging. Sometimes you underestimate how strong you really are, and through experimentation you may find that you can lift heavier than you thought.

Hire a trainer. If you are struggling with consistency or getting bored with your own workouts, trying programs from certified trainers or working with a trainer 1 on 1 can definitely amplify your routine. Trainers can help push your limits and drive fast results due to their more extensive knowledge on how your body functions and types of exercises. Purchasing programs can also help if you desire more flexibility. I have found that programs help keep me motivated and consistent with a new routine.
