How to Lose Weight...The Healthy Way

By Maya Carducci

Losing weight is one of the top fitness goals individuals have, and while it sounds like a simple task, it is easier said than done. However, losing weight doesn’t have to be a negative experience. It simply takes commitment to yourself and your health. Here are a few considerations when trying to lose weight and how to do it in a positive light.

Know that losing weight is not a bad thing, unless it’s for the wrong reasons. For most people, to become a healthier person means to lose weight. The number on the scale is simply just a number and most times it is not necessarily an accurate indicator if you are healthy or not. Everyone has a different body and genetics, thus a number on the scale for someone else doesn’t mean you will look and feel the same as them if you get your number to match.

Know that it is not a quick fix. Many fad diets and weight loss scams claim that losing weight is a fast process, well, it isn’t. Short term fixes for your weight do not last and it will keep you spiraling down the wrong unhealthy path in terms of relationship with your body. The key is to not restrict yourself. Otherwise, restriction will help you lose weight, but will give you a horrible relationship with food. Who wants that?

A healthy life does not have a due date. This is something that you should want for the rest of your life. To be healthy is to invest in yourself, your own body. You can invest in so many other external things, why not give yourself some love? Treating weight loss as a journey towards your best self will help keep it a positive experience and something that is maintainable.

Practice balance and moderation. You simply must be in a caloric deficit to lose weight. Meaning, you can eat what you want within those limits. It is best to focus on clean nutritious foods that your body needs, but, in addition, don’t restrict yourself from the foods you love. Simply, eat those foods in moderation regularly.

Losing weight isn’t as bad as it is made out to be. Viewing it in a more positive way will help you fall in love with the process and maintain it for yourself for the rest of your life.
