4 Home Workout Essentials

Do you want that toned summer body, but lack access to a gym? Maybe your gym has reopened, but you cannot exercise with a mask on. COVID-19 has shown us more than ever the importance of home workouts. Just because you are not in a gym does not mean you have to fall short of your summer goals. You do not want to wake up in June and turn down a trip to the beach or a day in the pool with friends because you are feeling insecure. Here are four affordable essentials you can use at home in order to continue your progress.

  1. Resistance bands. Short resistance bands can be used to tone your legs and glutes when worn around your thighs. Some workouts to incorporate short resistance bands into include standing or lying side leg raises, donkey kicks, squats, etc. If you create a knot at the end of a long resistance band and close it in the top of a door, the band can act as a cable machine for arm workouts. This can be used for tricep pushdowns, lat pulldowns, or an overhead tricep extension.

  2. Ankle weights. Strap these around your ankles to increase the difficulty of any bodyweight or weighted leg workout you are doing. You can even wear them just walking around the house. You could also wear them around your wrists for arm workouts.

  3. Yoga Mat. A yoga mat allows you to work out on a gripped, non-slip surface. It also provides a cushion against a hard floor, or possible rug burn, when doing planks, abs, or high-intensity interval training.

  4. Gliding discs. These can be a gamechanger for strengthening your core and overall balance. In a plank position, you can put these under your hands and glide one arm at a time, or under your feet and glide one foot at a time. Standing, you can put them under your feet, assume a squat position, and glide your feet outward. This also works to tone your glutes!

Home workouts are easy with just a little creativity and these four affordable and easy-to-store essentials.
